LEGO Sanctum Sanctorum (Model 76218) Building Experience

Published on 8 May 2024 at 15:45

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome back to the LifeofTarby. One of my main hobbies is purchasing and building Lego sets. I am a massive lover of Lego, so much so that I contemplated moving to Billund to try and get a job there! I have built many Lego sets, from the Hogwarts Castle, The Orchid, the Guardians of the Galaxy ship and of course, Baby Groot!

Above you can see some of the Lego sets I have built so far!

Today I will be showing my experience building one of my favourite Lego sets ever, the Sanctum Sancturom. As you may know, I am a huge lover of Marvel. Doctor Strange himself is one of my favourite heroes in the comic books and movies. The Sanctum Sanctorum is a truly iconic establishment in the Marvel universe and I was so incredibly excited when I finally got my hands on this set.

The set is model number 76218 and is still available to purchase on the Lego website. The set itself costs £219.99, however I managed to get mine 6 months ago for £159.99. This includes a modular-style Sanctum Sanctorum and 9 minifigures. There is some cool minifigures included with Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man and multiple Doctor Strange variants (and others) The model includes over 2600 pieces aswell!

Let me show you my building experience and overall thoughts on this popular set!

Assembling - First Floor

The building experience begins with making the street which the Sanctum will stand on. I always love the way they make these, mixing up the pieces so it never gets dull. In one of the pictures you can see the floor of the Sanctum being built with 2 different colours. One thing I really like about Lego is the clear instructions. I am colourblind so I struggle with my reds, pinks, purples, blues, greens and browns. However, even though the pieces are the same size, I could clearly identify which pieces needed to go where. The street eventually included street lamps, grids and various Easter eggs for us Marvel lovers!

In the pictures above you can also see the foundation of the first floor. When finished, the first floor included a very awesome exterior with windows, shutters and different bricks. The interior is also super cool and enjoyable to build. This includes the grand staircase, opening and closing double doors, various wall art, furniture and the book of the Darkhold. I love the way they trap the book in the wall, as we all know what happens when a sorcerer gets too involved with that! All the little Easter eggs and details make this build so exciting.

Assembling - second floor

The second floor is when the build starts to come to life! The staircase you have previously built on the first floor reaches the top on this floor and opens up into a new room. Other features include lots of awesome details including bookshelves, seats and mystical artefacts. For me the coolest feature is a subtle nod to the multiverse.

Referencing the photos above again, you can see a little door which is meant to open up to different universe’s! You can actually change which universe you want behind the door with a really cool mechanic on the side of the building. I personally go with the dark dimension as it looks more daunting, but this can be changed easily for your preference.

Assembling - third floor

The top floor is when we finish the actual Sanctum building itself. This mainly includes the room you see a lot in the films, with various weapons and artefacts. Also the top floor includes the iconic circular window on the front of the building. I really like the way Lego did this part of the build as it fits really well and is easy to put together. Also the window is an actual piece, not a sticker! Winner winner.

Referencing the photos above again, you can see the dark tone of the room with the light shining through the front window. I actually had my Doctor Strange here for a while looking out the glass. Makes for some cool photos!

The exterior consists of building the roof and adding various pieces to make the building come to life. This includes various chimney tops and pipe work. This sounds quite boring, but these little touches really help bring the build to life!

One feature I really enjoy about this build is there is 3 square compartments missing off each wall, 1 on every floor. These 3 pieces are actually included and built in the set. You get a removable wall with a Captain America poster on, removable wall with a portal on and a removable wall with Shuma-Gorath from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. All these compartments are interchangeable. This means if you want the monster on the bottom floor and portal on the second, you can do that. I personally left the portal on the first floor, monster on the second floor and Captain America poster on the top floor, but this is all down to your preference!

To complete the build you mainly add exterior features including mini figures, greenery and street lamps. You can see in the picture below what the finished building looks like. You can also easily split this building into 3 which makes it super easy to show off to your friends and family!

I am a massive fan of this build and really enjoyed making it. Probably one of my favourite building experiences to this day. Good job Lego.

The verdict

Well that is the Lego Sanctum Sanctorum in all its glory! I would give this build a perfect 10 in terms of looks and appearance. Also I would give a very respectable 9 on building experience. The only downside for me was manually putting the windows together. It can get a little tricky putting the glass in them blocks sometimes!

This build currently sits next to my TV in my living room. Why would I not want to look at it everytime I watch something? Soon I will purchase more modular buildings (probably the Museum) and connect these together. Then I will assemble my lego room in all its glory! I’ve not told my girlfriend this news yet, but who doesn’t love surprises??

Recently I was gifted a light kit for this build which I am looking forward to adding! This will look really cool adding to the lights behind the TV. If you want to see how this looks with the lights on, please keep an eye on my Instagram @itstarby. I will upload the pictures to there when finished!

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this post. I hope it has clearly shown my experience and thoughts about this awesome set. I look forward to building more Lego sets for years to come! Thank you so much for reading, have a great day guys and girls :D
